We warmly welcome new Receptionist, Helen Spall and Area Manager Denise Commin. We wish Susan Fulton well in her changed position within the company.
As we head well into the third quarter, we can reflect on an amazing start to 2009.
Over the past few months, Southern Cross Cleaning has achieved a major target in attaining quality certification. This project has been expertly driven by HSE Manager, Stephen Lemon. Although certification has been achieved, it is an ongoing process with the company exposed to numerous audits yearly. Once again, Stephen will drive this process.
We were successful in two Government School Tender Rounds, retaining all bar one of our own contracts, and winning a further nine DECS contracts in the previous two quarters. Thus, increasing our market share in the education area to well over 120 sites.
Highlights amongst other successes are, new contracts with St John’s Youth Services, Parafield Airport and further extending our business relationship with Transfield Services, in undertaking cleaning services for the new and substantial ASC Shipyard (where they will be building the Air Warfare Destroyers).
We look forward to further successes and achievements over the following months.
Keep up the good work!

A Safety Message from HSE Manager

Storage of Aerosol Cans in Vehicles
On the 19th February 2009 at approximately 13.20 a company utility was transporting an employee back to the situated office area. The employee attempted to place the company utility in reverse, as reverse parking is a site requirement. As the driver placed the gear shifter of the vehicle into the reverse position the top fo the gear shifter came in contact with the tip of a can of aersol spray pack, which as a consequence sprayed into the face of another employee that was located in the rear seat of the company utility. The aerosol was anit-seize nickle spray. The employee was however wearing safety glasses at the time of the incident.
Aerosol spray packs were stored within the vehicle when they should be stored within a controlled manner away from this type of interference.
Aerosol spray packs are hazardous when stored in the cabin of vehicles for a variety of reasons which include:
Unplanned contact and release.
Pressure issues due to climatic conditions inside vehicles.
If small amounts of aerosol spray spacks are required to be stored within vehicles due to work requirements then they should be stored in designed campartments in the rear. Not where personnel travel within.
Meet the Managers
Meet our Marketing Manager Rudi Mandemaker
Rudi joined the company in 2005. Coming from a marketing and sales background in the security and pest control industries, Rudi was well equipped to join the Southern Cross Cleaning team. Over the last few years Rudi has proven to be an enthusiastic and successful team member and we look forward to continued growth under his control.
Rudi left country Victoria in 1986 to follow a Australian Rules football career at Central Districts, where not only did he become a club legend and one of the best full forwards of his time, but he also met his wife and has remained in South Australia ever since. Rudi has one son, also an avid football player, and two netball playing daughters.
A social man, amongst other pastimes, Rudi enjoys meeting with friends, watching his children play sport, fishing and the odd round of golf.
